At Saoirse Domestic Violence Services, we're looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our team for a 3-Month Fixed-Term Contract.

About the job

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that SDVS’ premises, grounds, vehicle and facilities are safe, well-maintained, clean and fit for purpose. The role will involve carrying out routine maintenance, repairs and inspections, preparing rooms, maintaining external areas and responding to urgent maintenance or facilities issues as required. The Maintenance Technician will also coordinate with Management and external contractors, maintain appropriate maintenance and safety records, support Health & Safety compliance, and assist with emergency situations.

This is a full-time role for a fixed-term period of 3 months, located in Tallaght and Rathcoole working 39 hours per week, 09:00 – 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 09:00 – 16:00 Friday.

Duties & Responsibilities

 Maintenance & Repairs

· Complete any minor maintenance and repair issues recorded in the Maintenance Log or as requested by Management, across all premises, on a daily basis.

· Carry out routine inspections of buildings and facilities to identify maintenance, repair, or health & safety issues.

· Proactively identify and address issues arising across all SDVS locations in the course of your work.

· Prepare rooms as required, including minor painting and general upkeep.

Reporting & Coordination

· Advise Management in a timely manner of any major maintenance issues requiring qualified external professionals, contractor involvement, or local authority (e.g. SDCC) intervention.

· Liaise with external contractors as directed by Management.

· Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks completed and report ongoing issues.

 

Grounds & External Areas

· Ensure the exterior of and grounds of all premises are kept clean, tidy, and safe at all times.

· Maintain and tidy garden areas around the premises.

· Ensure bins and bin storage areas are kept clean, hygienic, and safe.

 

Health & Safety

· Ensure appropriate Health & Safety procedures are maintained and adhered to at all times.

· Assist in responding to emergencies, including fire, flood, power outages, breakdowns, or other urgent situations.

· Support compliance with safety policies and contribute to maintaining a safe environment for clients and staff.

· Conduct regular checks such as PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) and Water Testing in accordance with service and legal requirements.

 

Logistics & Support

· Collect and deliver donations, supplies, equipment, and other items between SDVS premises as directed by Management.

· Assist with moving or setting up equipment and furnishings as required.

· To be responsible for the safe operation, cleanliness, and basic maintenance of the Organisation’s vehicle.

· To carry out routine vehicle checks (oil, tyres, lights, fuel levels) and report any mechanical issues promptly.

· To ensure the vehicle is serviced, taxed, insured, and roadworthy in line with organisational policy.

· To use the vehicle solely for authorised organisational purposes.

· To maintain mileage and usage logs as required.

 

Professional Conduct

· Conduct all duties with professionalism, discretion, and sensitivity to the needs of clients.

· Be respectful of the confidentiality of clients using the service at all times.

· Perform such other duties appropriate to the role as may be assigned from time to time by Management.

Requirements

Requirements

· Previous experience in a maintenance, facilities, caretaking or similar practical roles.

· Practical skills with the ability to carry out minor repairs, maintenance, painting and general upkeep.

· Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage routine tasks, maintain accurate records and respond to urgent requests.

· Ability to work independently and use initiative, while also working effectively as part of a team.

· Good communication skills and the ability to liaise professionally with Management, colleagues and external contractors.

· A strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements, with the ability to identify maintenance, repair and safety issues, follow relevant procedures, and take appropriate action or report issues promptly.

· Full Driving License and the ability to safely operate and maintain the Organisation’s vehicle.

· Professionalism, discretion and sensitivity, with a strong commitment to confidentiality and respect for the privacy, dignity and safety of women and children accessing Saoirse services.

· Legal permission to work in Ireland.
